Donald Trump insulted families of fallen heroes. He compared his “Sacrifices” with those of a family whose son died in battle.

In 2016 Khizr Khan, the father of slain U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, spoke at the Democratic National Convention, objecting to Trump’s bigoted proposal to ban Muslims from entering the nation. Mr. Khan spoke about equal protection under the law, and called out Trump for never having sacrificed for his country.

In response, Trump said, “‘I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'” – comparing his efforts to make money with the genuine sacrifices of those who died or lost loved ones in the line of duty

But his obscene false equivalence wasn’t enough of an insult. Trump turned his attention on Captain Khan’s grieving mother, who stood silently next to her husband while he spoke. Maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say, said Trump.”You tell me.”

He also callously remarked, to the widow of fallen Sgt. La David Johnson, that he “knew what he signed up for”
